Maayan Amir & Ruti Sela, “Therms and Conditions,” 2022
“Thermal imaging units are non-contact devices that may be used to harness body-heat radiation at the service of target-identification systems. A way to avoid detection of the device is to blend with another heat source. The following intervention was created using thermal imaging while loitering through the streets of Tel Aviv on a winter night, when we asked strangers to help us keep warm.” (Mayaan Amir and Ruti Sela)

For more than a decade, artist, writer and curator Maayan Amir and artist Ruti Sela have been collaborating in a variety of transdisciplinary art projects, touching on issues of visual representation, information technologies, legal frameworks, the weaponization of images, and more. Their audiovisual work, of which we showcase here a short clip from 2022, is poignantly put to the service of analyzing the technological intersections of state and non-state powers, often hinting, if implicitly, at the visual politics of Harun Farocki.
