Skip Norman, West-Berlin, ca. 1969/70

This short snippet of silent 8 mm film was filmed by Ingrid Oppermann in West-Berlin, possibly close to her apartment in Kurfürstenstraße, where Harun Farocki’s The Words of the Chairman (1967) was shot. The snow that is reflected in the shop window indicates that it must have been the Winter of 1969/70.

Ingrid Oppermann started to study film at Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) in 1970. She is one of the voice-over narrators in Skip Norman’s film On Africa (1970) and also participated as an actress in Farocki’s Inextinguishable Fire (1969) and Günter Peter Straschek’s Zum Begriff des “kritischen Kommunismus” bei Antonio Labriola (1843–1904) (1970). Her own films as a director include Kinder für dieses System (1972, co-directed by Gardi Deppe), and Frauen – Schlusslichter der Gewerkschaft (1975).

Thanks to Ingrid Oppermann for generously sharing the material.
